Project Khel Kranti: Transforming Lives One Playground at a Time

In India, underprivileged children often lack access to proper recreational facilities and face limited opportunities for sports participation. According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, only 56% of schools in India have playgrounds, with a significant disparity between rural and urban areas. These children, who deserve every chance to thrive, often attend schools in economically disadvantaged areas that lack suitable infrastructure, including playgrounds. This stark reality hampers their physical and mental development, leaving them without the tools to reach their full potential.

Many schools, even in urban areas like Delhi NCR lack suitable infrastructure, including playgrounds, which hampers the physical and mental development of the students. The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2019 highlighted that only 16% of children in rural India and 32% in urban India have access to sports facilities. But it doesn't end there. The impact of this deprivation extends far beyond playtime. Furthermore, the absence of recreational activities and exposure to sports can negatively impact academic achievement and overall well-being, robbing them of the chance to excel in their studies and pursue their dreams. Their potential remains untapped, hidden beneath the weight of the barriers they face.

Further, the United Nations in its attempt to promote outdoor play has recognized Play, along with shelter and education as a basic human right. Yet, amidst the sadness, there is hope.

Project Khel Kranti aims to be the beacon of change, a ray of light in the lives of these underprivileged children. We believe that every child deserves a fair shot at a bright future regardless of background. By creating sustainable playgrounds and sports grounds, we are not just building structures but breaking down the walls that hold these children back from a world of dreams and passion.

Through this project, we (Samaira Mohunta and Amaira Kapoor, students of The Shri Ram School, Moulsari) aim to rewrite their stories. Together, all of us can provide them with the tools to thrive academically, physically, and emotionally. Let us build a future where every child, regardless of their circumstances, can chase their dreams, experience the exhilaration of sports, and discover their full potential, because every child deserves the chance to play, dream, and shine. Help us change their lives one playground at a time.
